Sharing is caring!

Spoiler Alert: Here’s your quick guide to a spring clean up that will get you out of the house and doing more of what you really want to do.

To mark spring’s arrival, I’m breaking free from the prison of a nasty wet winter when I hibernated with fuzzy socks, the warmth of soups and stews, and the sounds and smells of a crackling fireplace on a bone-chilling rainy day!

Spring fever’s got me It’s power dictates what I do – just like I remember teenage hormones dictating all manner of stupid decisions. But now, it pushes me to do the things that I really love and to reimagine ways to take care of the necessities.

Spring urges me to move outside, fling my windows open, plant a garden, discover new flowers, keep the kids up late, dine alfresco – for every meal, enjoy the soft breezes against my face in my back yard, run in the rain, splash in puddles, throw responsibility to the wind, arrive late for all my appointments – I basically allow myself enjoy the season and live in the moment!

So spring cleaning is the very LAST thing I want to do. It’s been romanticized – but, let’s face it, it’s still cleaning. You can only put so much lipstick on a cleaning pig. And besides, we had people in and out during the holidays and I was doing plenty of cleaning – shallow, deep, and every other kind.

Spring is the season to embrace your passions and follow your heart. It’s the season to be authentic – to do that which brings you joy and to reject the myth of spring cleaning! Breathe in the fresh air, spend time with the ones you love, and prepare yourself for a summer of outdoor fun!

But do you still need to clean when you have spring fever? Well…maybe a little! Instead of a brutal deep cleaning, I do some things that I like to think of as “happy” projects.

Spring “Spruce Up” for People with Spring Fever

My favorite way to spring clean when I have spring fever? Open the windows and doors and shoo out all the stuffy air in the house. It’s simple and refreshing.

I love a pretty new welcome mat for my deck and a quick trip to the garden store for a few baskets of pretty flowers to add color and cheer.

On the neutral background of my sofa and chairs – I spice things up any way I want for any season or holiday. The quickest easiest way is to change out my pillow covers; it’s quick, inexpensive and makes a big impact!

I’ve made a point of displaying the boys’ art in a couple of places throughout the house. Spring is one of my favorite times to move these around and replace older works with newer ones.

Prepare for Summer Instead of Cleaning

I do take the opportunity to do a few seasonal check-ups – we live in the South, so I make sure that I have the air-conditioner checked out. Because if mama is hot this summer – ain’t nobody happy.

And I check out the grill and pick up a new propane tank, because I’m hoping it gets a ton of use this summer. Nothing makes me happier than all the neighborhood kids gettin’ rowdy in our yard while we toss hotdogs and burgers on the grill. Who doesn’t love the smell of the grill on a warm summer day?

It fills my heart to be the house that all the kids flock to. So I want to make sure we have some really “cool” toys. We love water blasters, sprinklers, and we love ALL the super soakers!

And this is my little slice of embarrassment in the world – a baby pool for my feet. Yes, think Raising Arizona. It’s not pretty, but I don’t care; if my feet are cool, summer is that much better.
